All Changes In Life Start With Awareness

Awareness means you being able to be more and more the observer in your life. Self-awareness makes it possible for you to understand yourself better and see how you can develop yourself in your own way and pace. Any personal development course, tool, insight, wisdom or lesson can only be put into practice if you have enough self-awareness.

We tend to easily overlook awareness. It's because it is always there. It's that part of you that holds space for life to happen. It's the field of consciousness, so to speak. The example that resonates with me deeply is that of dreaming. When you are dreaming without knowing you are dreaming, you are not aware. You feel identified with the dream. When you know you are dreaming, you are aware within the dream.

Another example to grab what awareness is to go from Descartes's error to Sartre's insight. The founder of modern philosophy René Descartes had this famous dictum "I think therefore I am". Hundreds of years later another famous philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre discovered a new insight. After looking very deeply at Descartes's statement Sartre realised, in his own words, "the consciousness that says "I am" is not the consciousness that thinks". In other words, thinking is not who you are. When you are aware that you are thinking, that awareness is not part of the thinking. Awareness holds space for the thinking in this example. In essence, awareness holds space for life to happen.

As a coach and trainer for more than 5 years now, I love mostly serving in my 6 weeks signature program From Knowing To Living. I have designed this program from my own experiences, learnings and insights in this journey called life. At the core of this program, it's about the distinction between knowing yourself and knowing about yourself.

Knowing about yourself is the opportunity you seize every single day to be more aware. The more you are aware, the more you can change anything in your life you desire to change. Why? So you are more who you really are in life. Knowing yourself is embracing the awareness of who you really are, more and more in your daily life. And this is where my passion resides and starts. Because this is the entrance for a powerful (self) dialogue - being a conscious participant in the unfolding of life.

As always, I’d love to hear from you after reading this article anyway. Leave me a message in the comment section below.
