From Knowing To Living
That's the biggest challenge in any personal development journey. On the internet you are blown away with videos, blogs, posts, books, talks, webinars and more. A lot of content - for free - on how to be the best version of you. And you probably already know a lot. So much that you even believe you don't need any more content. But do you realise that knowing is not the same as living it? Many people believe now that they know, their life is going to change.
On the contrary, most people end up unhappier than they were before they knew so much about living their best life. They are frustrated that after all this learning and knowing of stuff does not result in them actually being the best version of themselves. The number one reason why its difficult to move from knowing to living what you know, is that you have habits, beliefs and patterns that are holding you back and that are hard to break and change. And it's important to move past these habits, beliefs and patterns, because everything that stays on the level of knowing will dissipate and vanish from your mind, as you have never known it. What a loss of your time, energy and some times even money.
The only thing that you need to have - at least - to start the process of moving from knowing to living what you know is: self awareness. You need to be more and more the observer in you, so you can start creating more space inside of you, so you can choose differently in the moment. Creating more space feels almost like experiencing slow motion in these moments when your habits, beliefs and patterns kick in. In stead of falling into the trap unconsciously until you are aware again, feel frustrated and you may even beat up on yourself because you know better, but you are still not living up to it.
Use these 3 easy steps to start enhancing your level of self awareness. Step 1 catchyourself when you fall into the habit, belief or pattern you wish to get rid off. Catching yourself is a big first step. Step 2 is choosing to observe right in that moment. Be fully present and don't judge but just observe everything with your five senses - what do you see, hear, smell, feel, what are you thinking in that moment. And step 3 is celebrate when you have managed to take step 1 and 2. This might sound crazy, but celebrating makes it fun to keep repeating those 3 steps when you fall into the habit, belief and pattern again. And for sure, it will happen some more times.
Even if you need to take those steps - catching, observing and celebrating - a 1000 times, keep doing them and you will experience your self awareness growing every single time, until you start to choose differently and before you know it the habit, belief or pattern is gone. And you probably have created a new habit, belief or pattern, but this time one that is serving you.
